Community BBQs at the Village and Lighthouse
To kick off the start of the 2019-2020 school year, the Turner Foundation staff hosted community barbecues at both the Village and Lighthouse complexes. All residents at both communities were invited, and both gatherings turned out to be a huge success! The first barbecue was hosted at the community pool in the Village, where children swam and played together while parents chatted. Our very own Director of Programs, Donnie Feller, handled barbecuing duties and delivered up some delicious hamburgers and hot dogs for all! Meanwhile, fresh produce and groceries (through our partnership with Foodbank) were laid out for residents to pick and choose from.
A few weeks later, we hosted our second community barbecue in the newly-renovated courtyard of the Lighthouse. Parents and other residents sat around tables and chatted, while the children got to play fun water games set up by our staff! Fresh produce and groceries were also set up for residents to take home, and the karaoke system that was set up by our Director of Music, David Rojas, was a huge hit! Donnie was back at it again, grilling up delicious hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone, and many residents arrived with homemade dishes to share.
These community barbecues were a great way to enjoy the end of the hot summer days, while celebrating the start of a new school year with all of our community members. Our residents, students, and staff got to come together and meet new faces, catch up with old friends, and enjoy each other’s company!
