Opportunity Summary:

Serve and learn from members of the Turner Foundation’s CEO and executive team on a wide array of projects to further the mission of the Foundation in service of the community. Core work areas include Good Life TV, Community Learning Centers, and the PWJ Scholarship Fund.
This paid, two-semester long, internship can be completed in conjunction with a Westmont internship course which would allow you to earn academic credit for this paid internship.

Job Summary:

Our organization is searching for experienced, reliable, flexible, and task-oriented interns. The interns will work directly with the CEO and Directors and will be responsible for performing a number of administrative duties to support the Turner Foundation and its programs (i.e., Good Life TV, CLC’s, PJW Scholarship Fund, etc.). The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of managing their workload and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, you should be well-organized, have great time management skills and be able to act without guidance. Ultimately, you will contribute to the efficiency of our organization by providing personalized and timely support to executive members. This position is responsible for assisting with tasks given by the CEO and/or Director of Programs to support with the day-to-day, future endeavors, and overall success of the Turner Foundation. The interns should have a clear understanding of the goals and objectives of the Turner Foundation in relation to its mission and progress. Some aspects of this specific internship will be designed around the intern so as to play to their strengths and interests.

Working Environment / Minimum Physical Requirement:

Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Requires light physical activity such as phone and computer work. May require walking, driving, light lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending. Background check will be taken upon commencement of the internship and results will be submitted to the Turner Foundation office.

 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Personal Characteristics:

Areas of Responsibility:

1.     General Responsibilities:

  • Support with any projects/tasks requested by executive staff that supports the overall success of the Turner Foundation

  • Direct support to Special Projects Coordinator and Executive Assistant to fulfill their day-to-day work-related needs

  • Manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner

  • Format information for internal and external communication – memos, emails, presentations, reports

  • Planning support for corporate events that take place outside of the workplace, such as golf tournaments, fund-raising events and staff appreciation events

  • Uphold a strict level of confidentiality

  • Develop and sustain a level of professionalism among staff and clientele

 

2.     Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support public engagement and interactions with GLTV viewers and TF supporters to make sure we continue to engage the online community appropriately

  • Support movement and growth on all social media platforms (for GLTV, TF, et al.) in order to maximize outreach efforts and build up supporter/fan base

  • Participate in marketing efforts to meet objectives set by the Turner Foundation’s Social Media Team

  • Continue outreach efforts and create partnerships with other media outlets to promote GLTV and increase viewership

  • Work with Social Media Team to evaluate current outreach methods for GLTV and continuously develop new strategies as needed

  • Support data collection on effectiveness of marketing strategies (and other applicable projects) and create reports or signage for potential donors, presentations, advertisement/marketing purposes

  • Pursue GLTV guests/partners under the guidance of the President’s Team

  • Responsible for routine tasks on social media platforms assigned by Special Projects Coordinator, Director of Programs, and/or President/CEO.

Intern Will Learn And Be Exposed To:

A unique and distinguishing factor for the Vision and Call internships at Turner is that each intern will participate in a customized personal and professional development process as part of their time with Turner. These personal and professional growth programs include:

  • Attendance at Murdock Trust’s annual Vision and Call internship conference (all expenses paid by Murdock Trust) in early October.  This is a national gathering of all Vision and Call interns, with special conference speakers and activities.  A member of Turner’s Senior Leadership Team, as the Vision and Call advisor, will also attend.

  • All Vision and Call internships require a strong commitment to intern growth and professional development as part of the Company’s grant process. Turner has submitted and received approval for a multi-dimensional growth plan for its interns:

  • Personal and regular mentoring by multiple members of Turner’s senior leadership team.

  • A full program of assessments and feedbacks specifically geared toward each intern’s growth and development as part of the program.

  • A professional development plan, with specific outcomes targeted, for the intern experience.

  • A 360-degree performance evaluation at the end of the internship term.

 

Professionally, the intern will be given the opportunity to work in the field that promotes a community engagement and responsibility while fostering dynamic problem solving and solutions. They will receive an inside look at a potential career in youth development, non-profit management, donor relations, and property management. They will also be given the opportunity to form experiences and relationships they can build on in the future.

Details:

  • Part-time position

  • The internships will be 12 hours a week, for two consecutive semesters (39 weeks which can include Mayterm/Summer 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024).  Working hours can be flexible to accommodate other student responsibilities.

  • Interns will receive a stipend of approximately $864/month (the equivalent of $18/hour).

  • Interns will be assigned to one or more high impact projects each semester.

  • Expectations are that most assigned work will be able to be performed in-person at Turner’s Office or in field locations, although interns should expect to be available to work and do meetings remotely as directed by Turner.

  • Interns will complete their internship hours during Turner’s normal working hours: (Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.). A work schedule will be determined at the start of your internship.

 

  • Paid Two-Semester Internship, Mentorship, and Annual Conference:

  • The Turner Foundation (Turner), thanks to a partnership with the Murdock Trust’s Vision and Call grant (www.murdocktrust.org), is offering two Westmont College students paid internships with a twelve hour per week commitment lasting an entire academic year (two consecutive semesters which can include Mayterm/Summer). You’ll work alongside Turner’s senior leadership team to help it equip underserved populations with the tools necessary to be positive contributors and leaders within the community. Turner is headquartered in Santa Barbara and has been in operation since 1958.
