Summer 2017

The Village and Lighthouse Learning Centers both had very eventful summers around our community of Santa Barbara with many opportunities for discovery and adventure! The Lighthouse experienced an environmental unit with local non-profit group, Save the Mermaids where they learned how we can better take care of our planet through experiential learning. Field trips to the Sea Center, tide pooling, UCSB REEF Center, SB Channel Keeper, the Watershed, Art from Scrap, Tajiguas landfill, C&D Yard, and kayaking with Channel Island Outfitters all contributed to our learning of how to preserve our ocean’s health and action items to take in the future. The Village experienced a Santa Barbara historical unit where they visited the Presidio of Santa Barbara, Casa de la Guerra, Santa Barbara Historical Museum, and the Santa Barbara Mission. They also had a STEAM unit with numerous projects on site including a speaker building session led by SONOS and were able to visit a Physics professor at Westmont. Enjoy some of our highlights in this video!

Children’s Holiday Showcase

On December 16th, the children of The Village and The Lighthouse performed at the annual Children’s Showcase. We had the privilege of being able to perform for the second year in a row at the beautiful theatre of La Cumbre Junior High. Students practiced for almost two months prior to this event, which featured an array of talents from the students.

The Tale of Two Villages

The Tale of Two Villages

The Turner Foundation, formerly the Rose Garden Village Foundation, was founded in 1958 by Rev. Dr. Albert J. Turner. Thus beginning a legacy of service to those who are in need. At the time the needs of the elderly were primerose of the Foundation. For 45 years the Rose Garden Village was a staple of ‘service to seniors’ in Riverside, CA. At the same time, the United States government adopted Section 231 of the Federal Housing Administration (HUD), which provided for the underwriting of retirement homes for the elderly. Rev. Turner’s Rose Garden Senior Living haven was the first project in the nation under that act.

The Mission & Vision
