Spring Break

The students of The Village and The Lighthouse had a very active and productive Spring Break. Students enjoyed exploring Santa Barbara and getting to join together as one group, getting to know each other and create relationships with other students from their community. In the mornings, students worked through rotations of Lexia (computer literacy program), music, and reading. Afternoons included activities and field trips. Monday, both centers engaged in a service learning project by picking up trash in their respective neighborhoods. All together, both centers picked up 7 bags of trash! Tuesday, both centers spent the day at Pilgrim Terrace Homes (PTH) playing bingo and decorating and planting flower pots with their residents. We enjoyed a delicious lunch from their kitchen, followed by movement by engaging in field games and soccer on PTH’s field. Wednesday, both centers visited The Carriage and Western Art Museum experiencing what it would be like to live in the old west. Many students made the connection to Old Spanish Days (Fiesta). We then enjoyed lunch in the park and a group played soccer on the grass, while the other group went to walk along the harbor. Thursday, both centers spent the day at Chase Palm Park, playing on the field and playground, then went to go feed the ducks. Students saw a plastic water bottle in the pond and immediately made it their mission to fish it out. Environmental education is an important part in our centers and it is nice the students are starting to practice ecological awareness without being told. Friday, both centers had pool day at The Village pool. It was a great way to end our Spring Break with some fun in the sun! We look forward to spending more time together!
