Communications Intern

Job Summary:

Our organization is searching for experienced, reliable, flexible, and task-oriented interns. The interns will work directly with the Communications Coordinator and Executive Assistant and will be responsible for performing a number of administrative duties to support the Turner Foundation and its programs (ie Good Life TV, CLC’s, PJW Scholarship Fund, etc.). The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of managing their workload and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, you should be well-organized, have great time management skills and be able to act without guidance. Ultimately, you will contribute to the efficiency of our organization by providing personalized and timely support to executive members. This position is responsible for assisting with tasks given by the Communications Coordinator and Executive Assistant to support with the day-to-day, future endeavors, and overall success of the Turner Foundation. The interns should have a clear understanding of the goals and objectives of the Turner Foundation in relation to its mission and progress. Some aspects of this specific internship will be designed around the intern so as to play to their strengths and interests. 

Working Environment / Minimum Physical Requirement:

Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Requires light physical activity such as phone and computer work. May require walking, driving, light lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending. Background check will be taken upon commencement of internship and results will be submitted to the Turner Foundation office.

Areas of Responsibility:


General Responsibilities:

  • Support with any projects/tasks requested by executive staff that supports the overall success of the Turner Foundation

  • Direct support to Communications Coordinator and Executive Assistant to fulfill their day-to-day work-related needs

  • Manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner

  • Format information for internal and external communication – memos, emails, presentations, reports

  • Planning support for corporate events that take place outside of the workplace, such as golf tournaments, fund-raising events and staff appreciation events

  • Uphold a strict level of confidentiality

  • Develop and sustain a level of professionalism among staff and clientele

    Social Media/Communications Intern Responsibilities:

  • Support public engagement and interactions with GLTV viewers and TF supporters to make sure we continue to engage the online community appropriately

  • Support movement and growth on all social media platforms (for GLTV, TF, et al.) in order to maximize outreach efforts and build up supporter/fan base

  • Participate in marketing efforts to meet objectives set by the Turner Foundation’s Social Media Team

  • Continue outreach efforts and create partnerships with other media outlets to promote GLTV and increase viewership

  • Work with Social Media Team to evaluate current outreach methods for GLTV and continuously develop new strategies as needed

  • Support data collection on effectiveness of marketing strategies (and other applicable projects) and create reports or signage for potential donors, presentations, advertisement/marketing purposes

  • Pursue GLTV guests/partners under the guidance of the President’s Team

  • Responsible for routine tasks on social media platforms assigned by Special Projects Coordinator, Director of Programs, and/or President/CEO.


Skills and Other Requirements:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with an ability to become familiar with organization-specific programs and software

  • Proficiency in collaboration and delegation of duties

  • Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills with impeccable multi-tasking abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Friendly and professional demeanor

  • Familiarity with office gadgets and applications (e.g. e-calendars and copy machines)

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Discretion and confidentiality

  • High School degree

Intern Will Learn And Be Exposed To: 

The intern will be given the opportunity to work in the field that promotes a community engagement and responsibility while fostering dynamic problem solving and solutions. They will receive an inside look at a potential career in youth development, non-profit management, donor relations, and property management. They will also be given the opportunity to form experiences and relationships they can build on in the future.

  • Part-time position

  • College credit is available for this position

  • Hours: 10-20hrs per week

  • General job schedule (subject to change):

    • Monday-Friday

    • 8am-6:00pm
